Washington, DC - The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is asking the U.S. Supreme Court today to hold the FDA accountable for failing to protect the health of women and young girls in U.S. Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. ACPeds is a plaintiff in the case which asks the Supreme Court to affirm the lower court’s ruling that the FDA acted unlawfully when it removed crucial safety standards for chemical abortion drugs.

Dr. Michael Artigues, President of ACPeds, says, “We want to be part of making the FDA do what it is supposed to do: keep our patients safe. The FDA was established to protect the American public and should not be allowed to act recklessly with the health and safety of women and girls.”

Executive Director of ACPeds, Dr. Jill Simons, says, “The FDA’s own label states that roughly one in 25 women who take chemical abortion drugs will end up in the emergency room. Yet, it removed almost all of its original safeguards for the use of these drugs, leaving women to administer the drugs by themselves at home without ever having an in-person visit with a doctor to check for ectopic pregnancy, severe bleeding, and life-threatening infections. Women’s health matters, and we are asking the FDA to do its job.”
