Atlanta, GA- On Friday, April 7th, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Amarillo Division, ruled in favor of protecting women and girls by halting the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of chemical abortion drugs in the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration case. On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice and Danco Laboratories (the manufacturer of chemical abortion pills) filed emergency motions to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to stay the ruling. The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a plaintiff in this case.
The President of ACPeds, Dr. Michael Artigues, released the following quote:
"The FDA abdicated its responsibility to protect women and girls when it approved and subsequently removed safeguards from chemical abortion pills. Because ACPeds is committed to protecting life, born and preborn, we are pleased with the ruling out of Texas and continue to stand on the side of life as the ruling is challenged.”
Dr. Robin Pierucci, ACPeds Chair of the Pro-Life Committee, released the following statement:
“Chemical abortion drug’s side effects pose a known, direct medical threat to women and girls, and they are intentionally given to end the life of an immature human being. The ruling affirms what science acknowledges, that chemical abortions are not safe and that political agendas, not medical excellence, have allowed for their continued use.”
