Nominee for Reelection to Presidency

Michael Artigues, MD

I received my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University in 1988 and medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School in 1992 where I also completed my pediatric residency in 1995. I have practiced general pediatrics in McComb, MS as a partner in the McComb Children's Clinic since completing my training.

I live with my wife of over 30 years and we have six children and four grandchildren (and counting). I was involved with the Bioethics section of the AAP for a number of years and enjoy writing occasional articles for our local newspaper on various topics of interest. I have served as board member and president of the local Crisis Pregnancy and Child Advocacy Centers and have been a member of the American College of Pediatricians board since 2014, currently serving as President. I have an appreciation for music and sports and spend much of my free time engaged in parish-related activities. I also have a great interest in theology and matters of faith and recognize the pivotal role religion plays both in my local community and America as a whole.

I share the passion of the ACP to promote what is best for children. As a practitioner in an underserved and socio- economically depressed population, I see the damage resulting from the breakdown of the family unit and how this affects small town America. As a private practitioner and business owner I also appreciate the effect our economy, organized medicine and government regulations have on small businesses - good and bad. I feel responsible to do more than superficially address the immediate needs of my patients and, as a member of ACPeds, I like being part of a pediatric advocacy group that is willing to do the same.
