Christina Y. Chan, MD, FCP

Dr. Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong and immigrated with her two brothers to the US in 1980.  She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Memphis State University in 1985, and her medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1989, where she also completed her Post-Doctoral Residency Program in Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in 1993. Subsequently, Dr. Chan completed a Combined Adult and Pediatric Clinical Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Boston; and a Research Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. Her research focused on vaccine clinical trials particularly pneumococcal conjugate vaccines in immunocompromised patients (HIV-positive, oncology and transplant patients).

Dr. Chan joined Merck & Co., Inc. in 1996 and served multiple leadership positions throughout the organization, ranging from vaccine clinical research, global vaccine policy, global medical affairs to patient innovation & engagement, supporting various anti-infectives, oncology, and vaccine products. She also led the clinical development of multiple live viral vaccines, most notably with (RotaTeq® Merck’s rotavirus vaccine) and Zostavax® (Merck's shingles vaccine). She retired from Merck since January 2022 dedicating her time in caring for her family and serving in various church ministries and other volunteer community activities.

Dr. Chan is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and a member to numerous professional societies including the Catholic Medical Association, the American College of Hospital Physicians, European Association for the Study of the Liver and the American Society of Microbiology. Dr. Chan recently joins the Board of Directors of the American College of Pediatricians advocating for the well-being of children.
